Residing in Fredenberg Township, MN, Ted is a corporate trainer, professional speaker and consultant with his own business, Schick Corporate Learning. A retired naval officer who rose up from the enlisted ranks, Ted has over 30 years experience leading people.

With over 20 years in teaching, Ted holds a BA Business from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, received a teaching certificate from Bemidji State University, and a Master of Education from the University of Minnesota, Duluth.

Ted is active in his community with Spirit Mountain Ski Patrol, local animal humane societies including Animal Allies and Friends of Animals and has served as a mentor for Mentor Duluth. In his “spare” time, he has been a stand-up comedian, teaches Boot Camp fitness classes, serves as a personal fitness coach and is a seasoned triathlete.

Speaker: Mary Dobbins – Landrum Dobbins LLC
Title: Navigating VAWA

Mary practices with the firm of Landrum Dobbins LLC.  For more than 25 years, she has practiced extensively in the area of housing law, representing both housing authorities and private landlords.   She regularly advises housing authorities with respect to the public housing and Section 8 programs, as well as other subsidy programs.  She litigates cases involving eviction of tenants and the termination of Section 8 benefits.   She represents housing authorities in connection with discrimination claims and other administrative proceedings.

Mary received her BA from the University of Minnesota and her law degree from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota.  She was the chair of the Hennepin County Bar Association’s Landlord Tenant Section from 2004-2007.  She is also a member of the adjunct faculty at William Mitchell College of Law.

Title: HR Basics for Supervisors

Joyce Hottinger is the Assistant Human Resources Director for the League of Minnesota Cities.  Prior to joining the League in September 2011, she worked in municipal human resources and administration for over 14 years as the Coon Rapids Human Resources Coordinator, the Ramsey Administrative Services Manager and the Hastings Administrative Assistant/City Clerk.  She has a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Studies and been certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) since June 2011, along with a Society for Human Resources Management Certification of SHRM -SCP since 2015.

Irene is the loan processor for the POHP and the Rental Rehab Deferred Loan programs. Irene has been with Minnesota Housing since August of 2015. Prior experiences include consumer and mortgage lending, and consumer credit counseling with Lutheran Social Service.

David is the Publicly Owned Housing Program (POHP) manager and Rental Rehab Deferred Loan (RRDL) program manager. His previous experience with Minnesota Housing includes serving as the HOME Rental Rehab team lead and Multifamily communications liaison.

Title: Sex Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation in Our Communities

Brie Sweeney is the West Central Safe Harbor Regional Navigator. She is the technical assistance and expert on sexual exploitation and sex trafficking for 19 counties of Minnesota. Brie Sweeney works out of the Heartland Girls' Ranch in Benson, MN. Brie works with victims of exploitation, ages 12-24. She provides 24/7 technical assistance to anyone within her region on all things exploitation. She gives presentations and trainings to community members, youth, and systems professionals. She also works to help build community capacity and creating policy and protocols for agencies and communities.

Mr. Banna has worked directly with the affordable housing community for more than 15 years. As a student and then an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Michigan State University’s Rental Housing Clinic, he represented low-income clients in landlord/tenant disputes over evictions and security deposits. Mr. Banna was Vice-President of the Ingham County Housing Commission providing oversight and input on the County’s home rehabilitation, Housing Choice Voucher and public housing programs. Mr. Banna has provided training, outreach and TA to PHAs on HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher and Public Housing programs in the areas of PHA operations, planning, and on purchasing HUD owned homes that were occupied by families affected by hurricanes Katrina and Wilma. Mr. Banna also served as Director of HUD’s Public and Indian Housing Information Resource Center which provides guidance on HUD’s rental assistance programs and Grant Management Center. Mr. Banna is currently NAHRO's Director of Policy and Program Development and conducts public policy analysis, formulates regulatory recommendations, and interacts with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on behalf of NAHRO's members.
