Minnesota NAHRO Seeks $140 Million in Bonds for Housing

In 2018, Minnesota NAHRO is proud to partner with hundreds of other organizations across the state to support the Homes For All $140 million bonding request.  Our state faces a critical affordable housing shortage, especially for seniors, youth and families with young children.  The bonds for housing request includes:

  • $110 million in housing infrastructure bonds (HIB)
  • Include senior housing as a new eligible use for HIB
  • $30 million in GO Bonds for Public Housing Rehab

Investments Have Immediate Impact

Across the state, developers are poised to create jobs and economic impact
by building and preserving homes for families and workers. In 2017, the
Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (MHFA) received funding applications
for 89 projects, representing more than 3,800 homes, that were ready
for development. Bonding resources make it possible for critical projects
to move from the drawing board to breaking ground.

Bonding Request Supports Full Continuim of Housing

There isn’t one kind of housing that fits the needs of every Minnesotan.
Bonding resources create new and preserve existing rental homes, support
emergency shelters, make improvements to the state's public housing and
promote homeownership. To meet the needs of all Minnesotans, we need
these resources to be available for senior and manufactured housing
projects, as well.
