Why become a member of Minnesota NAHRO?

As a member of Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO), you join the state's leading affordable housing and community development organization.  For over 60 years, we have served the state's housing and community development needs.

Minnesota NAHRO offers members an opportunity to sharpen skills and broaden education, discover a network of knowledge and experience, become a leader in the field and make a difference. 2020 Membership Rates & What to Expect in 2020

Minnesota NAHRO makes every effort to keep dues as low as possible while continuing to provide quality member services and resources. For 2020, Minnesota NAHRO's Board of Directors approve a 2% increase in membership dues as well as an early bird rate for those that register by the end of the year (a 10% savings). Minnesota NAHRO is working hard to offer new and continuing member benefits including:

  • Lead effort to secure state bonds for housing with a significant increase in GO Bonds for Public Housing Rehab
  • Continue to provide quality training opportunities at conferences and events with discounts for our members
  • Serve as a catalyst for our members to provide feedback on program and administrative concerns with key agencies and policy makers
  • Keep our members informed by providing timely updates and opportunities for members to connect with decision makers
  • Recognize industry leaders and member accomplishments

Professional Development

  • Held two conferences, each which brought together hundreds of industry professionals from across the state and which provided timely sessions including: 
    • Repositioning of Public Housing 
    • POHP Orientation & Guidance
    • Specialized track for Commissioners, Emerging Leaders & Rehab Professionals 
  • Offered national trainings at lower prices for our members including:
    • Housing Quality Standards
    • REAC Updates & Best Practices
    • Reasonable Accommodations & Fair Housing

State & Federal Policy

FEDERAL Activities included Congressional Briefing for Federal Staff in partnership with MHP and strong member participation in August Advocacy which resulted in hundreds of letters sent to Congress each year

STATE: Secured Resources for Affordable Housing including increased resources for Challenge Program, protected MCPP Resources, published the Legislative Advocacy Toolkit for Small Agencies and monitored/represented our members on a wide array of policy issues introduced at the state capitol including landlord/tenant, tax policy, and redevelopment tools

REGULATORY: provided written comments on federal and state regulations and testified at Minnesota Legislative hearings

Member Resources & Benefits

  • Every member receives discounted conference rates (typically 10-15% off) 
  • Secured $50,000 in grant resources to provide TA support small agencies to help address specific transition issues
  • Provided timely information on issues important to our members including federal & state policy, job postings, funding opportunities and new resources
  • Publish our monthly Housing Recap which provides updates to agencies that may not be receiving an alert service like Nan McKay PIH Alerts and/or are not National NAHRO or NCRC members

Serving Commissioners

  • Minnesota NAHRO provides our Commissioners Handbook with Minnesota specific information and resouces (available for $15 each or FREE if you use the flat rate below)
  • We offer a flat rate for Commissioners which means your board becomes individual members of Minnesota NAHRO at a discounted rate 

Scholarship & Recognition

  • Awarded two post-secondary education scholarships to residents served by the housing programs administered by Minnesota NAHRO agency members
  • “What Homes Means to Me” poster contest showcases the kids served by our member programs and the impact of affordable housing in their lives.  This year we had 28 entries with representation in every age category.  It was great to see the creativity of those that entered at all the age levels.
